THE MOVE

Autumn 2019 I was starting to get itchy feet (you’ll be glad to read that I’m talking in metaphors here, not a medical query.) Something wasn’t right. My life in Aberystwyth was nice…pleasant… easy; sea swims on my doorstep, attic studio a few meters from my bedroom, pace of the life was good. Life was trickling along pretty smoothly, but it was starting to feel a little …..nice

Pause for a second. Believe me, I’m aware of how fortunate I am to be able to write that, and forever grateful.

I needed a change, not sure in what format…new place, new pace, but once I’d made the decision everything seemed easier.
With a few things falling into place, I decided to move to Cardiff. I’ve lived here a number of times over the past few years and always felt a sense of ease and felt that it has the perfect balance of life, diversity, creativity, space and good people.

I moved to Cardiff early February 2020, and was starting to find my feet. I managed to find a studio space that can hold the loom (it still fills every corner) and also space to design and draw. I don’t think any of us envisaged what 2020 had in store, and if someone had forewarned me of what was to come, who knows if I would have moved to a lively city. But hey…that’s where we’re at.

With travelling restrictions within Wales, I had to sit tight for a little while before travelling up to Aberystwyth, dismantle the loom, bring it down 4 flights of stairs, into the van, and down the A470.

These short videos were taken whilst sitting tight over the summer months. Most of my ‘stuff’ was still in Aberystwyth, so it was time to take advantage of the new space, using the light to take photos, and plan.
Things are changing weekly and no one knows what’s ahead, but the move came at the right time for me, and I’m excited to see what will happen in Cardiff. Hopefully, one day soon I can open the studio door and welcome you all into the new space.
