MICK SHERIDAN X LLIO JAMES
Mick is an upholsterer based in Llangadog, Carmerthenshire. As well as re-upholstering a variety of furniture, he works on a few other projects too!. I’ll let you read his blog to see if you can spot the man under the mask.
I met Mick whilst I was finishing off my MA, and I was delighted to get talking to a proper upholsterer! I’ve always been drawn to furniture, from the ergonomics, designing, material to making. After leaving school I thought that furniture design would be my chosen path but following a tutorial on my foundation course, I soon realised that furniture design wasn’t my calling!
“Your portfolio isn’t very 3D...” Talk about a kick in the teeth, but he soon added, “you are good with colour.” Years later I find myself talking to someone who knows a lot about furniture, bloody dream!
Mick’s been working on the ‘Welsh Vernacular Range’and I’m so chuffed to be part of the range.
“A range of stools and benches hand-made in oak and upholstered in British wool fabrics. Inspired by home-made furniture from Welsh farms from the 1700’s onwards, our range is handmade in Carmarthenshire from locally sourced oak. The legs are spokeshaved and ‘wedged’ by hand to give a genuine rustic finish. The upholstery is handstitched to a piped edge giving a unique finish to each piece. Each piece is available in wool fabrics by Eleanor Pritchard, Melin Tregwynt and Llio James. Each piece is made to order in 4-6 weeks.”
Below are a few images of the first ever pig bench Mick worked on. We’ve since gone on to talk about colour, designs, fabric weight, wool and density. If you’re interested in any of the benches, please get in touch, or head over to Mick’s website.
