BLOC: TERRACOTTA
The design for this cloth started as a double cloth design; meaning two cloths/layers woven at the same time. I wanted to design a fabric that was striking on both sides, but without the weight of a two layered fabric.
This is where BLOC came to life; a single cloth (one layer) with a contrasting design on each side. It’s a 100% lambswool cloth, super warm and super soft to this skin. One side has a powerful asymmetric check design, where the reverse has a subtle miniature block pattern.
After sampling on my handloom, testing colours and varying weights, I took the design to my local mill. Following detailed discussions with the weavers at the mill, the design was developed, finalised and put into production.
