E - PAPER DESIGN
This collection started by the coast. Drawing from maritime signal flags as a source of inspiration for my woven designs. Each individual flag represents a letter or meaning and is used world wide as nautical code. I love the idea of using shapes as a way to translate letter or meaning.
My paper designs are loosely based on the flags, and have taken their own meaning by now. As there’s no maritime signal flag for the Welsh alphabet, I’ve designed my own. (I trust you not to use my designs out at sea!)
I build the paper collages to explore line, angle, scale and colour. Using a variety of coloured paper, each part is individually cut and layered to create new design flags making each one unique in it’s own.
