This collection started when I saw nineteenth century Welsh woollen blankets. Following several visits to the National Wool Museum at Dre-fach Felindre, the collection of woven blankets there fixed my creative mind. Contrasting bands of colour and varying striped widths was a clear design direction for me to take forward. I’m interested in the restrictions of ‘simple’ equipment and what can come of limitations set.

Hand woven in my attic studio on a traditional dobby loom; what looks like an old wooden frame can create contemporary cloth. Each blanket has been individually designed making the piece perfectly unique. Using the highest quality lambswool, each one hand woven, taking several days to set up the loom, followed by hours of hand weaving. Working with lambswool allows me to create a blanket that has the benefits of a traditional Welsh ‘carthen’ not half as heavy, but equally warm.

Designed with a strong sense of provenance, using geometric shapes to create a bold statement blanket or wall hanging for today.
